Duty Stations: Washington, D.C.

This section contains imagery of Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES) stationed at Washington, D.C. during World War II.   The various duty stations WAVES served were at the Main Navy Building located on the National Mall, the Washington Navy Yard, and at Anacostia.   In this collection, there are images of the first and second anniversaries of the establishment of the WAVES in July 1943.  President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated on the WAVES' first anniversary, "In their first year, the WAVES have proved that they are capable of accepting the highest responsiblity in the service of their country."
