USS New Jersey (BB-62)

Commissioned on May 23, 1943, the Iowa-class battleship, USS New Jersey  (BB-62), participated in the Battle of Philippine Sea, Battle of Leyte Gulf, and supported the Iwo Jima and Okinawa Campaigns.  Decommissioned in 1948, she was recommissioned for the Korean War and served until 1957.   Due to the heightening conflict during the Vietnam War, New Jersey was recommissioned in April 1968, providing Naval Gunfire Support until decomissioned the following year.   In 1982, she was recommissioned and saw service in the Persian Gulf War until finally being decommissioned for the last time in September 1991.   New Jersey currently serves as a museum ship at Camden, New Jersey.    

A model of New Jersey  was on display in the America's Wars in Vietnam section at the National Museum of the U.S. Navy (Cold War Gallery), Bldg. 70, until 2022.
