Sinking of German U-boat, U-853, May 6, 1945
While in the North Atlantic, off New London, Connecticut, German (Type IXC) U-boat, U-853, was sunk by Hedgehog depth charges from USS Atherton (DE-69) and USS Moberly (PF-63). All hands were lost. Previously, U-853 sank two ships, include USS PE-56 on April 23, 1945.
