1945: May 10: Surrender of German U-boat, U-249
German (Type VIIC) U-boat, U-249, surrendered at Portland, United Kingdom, on May 10, 1945. The German submarine did not sink any Allied vessels during World War II. U-249 was scuttled off Northern Ireland during Operation Deadlight in December 1945.
