The Mission Continues in Vietnam

Wet screening is the process where soil is washed through wire mesh with high-pressure hoses to find any potential osseous material, life support equipment or material evidence.

There remain 1,577 missing personnel unaccounted-for in Vietnam.

Recovery Operations Continue in France

Multiple tools, methods and systems are utilized throughout each recovery mission in order to maximize time and space on site.

There are approximately 1,438 missing personnel in France from World War II.

DPAA conducts Vietnam Honorable Carry Ceremony

The ceremony involved the transfer of a case containing possible osseous material found during a recovery mission in Vietnam. The cases were transferred to DPAA laboratories for scientific analysis and possible identification.

USS Oklahoma Sailor Honored

U.S. Navy RDML John Saccomando, assigned to the U.S. Pacific Fleet, and members of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) conduct an interment ceremony held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii, on April 9, 2024.

DPAA and attending family members paid their respects and honored the life of U.S. Navy Chief Water Tender Francis D. Day, who was assigned to the USS Oklahoma when the ship was attacked by Japanese aircraft during World War II.

Francis was accounted for on July 29, 2019, nearly 80 years after the attacks on Pearl Harbor.

2024 Mi-17 Remembrance Ceremony

DPAA hosts a memorial service each year in honor of 16 American and Vietnamese personnel who were lost in a Mi-17 helicopter crash while searching for missing and unaccounted for personnel from the Vietnam War on April 7, 2001.

DPAA continues Korean War disinterment efforts

Members of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) disinterred eight caskets as part of the agency’s efforts to identify unknown service members lost during the Korean War. The caskets were transferred to the DPAA laboratory, where they will undergo further scientific analysis and possible identification.
