USN 708206:   Navy Aviator Receives Medal of Honor, April 1951.   In his office at the Pentagon, Secretary of the Navy Francis P. Matthews, (left), greeted Mrs. Daisy P. Brown, (second from left), widow of Ensign Jesse Leroy Brown, the first African American Naval Officer to lose his life in any United States war.   Left to right, are Secretary Matthews, Mrs. Brown, Rear Admiral Robert F. Hickey, USN, Chief of Information, Seaman First Class Clara Carroll, USN, and Lieutenant Dennis D. Nelson, USN.   For the attempted rescue of Ensign Brown, whose plane struck by anti-aircraft fire and trailing smoke, was forced down behind enemy lines in the Chosin Reservoir area of Korea on December 4, 1950.  Lieutenant Junior Grade Thomas J. Hudner, Jr., USN, received the Medal of Honor from President Harry S. Truman at a ceremony at the White House.   Photograph released April 13, 1951.
