USN 639979:  Lieutenant Junior Grade Eva W. Schekorra, USN, July 1954.  Schekorra was the first U.S. Navy female officer assigned duty to Rome, Italy, July 1954.    Master Caption:   U.S. Navy to Send Woman Officer to Attache Duty in Rome.  The First woman officer assigned to duty in Rome, Italy, by the Navy is Lieutenant Junior Grade Eva W. Schekorra, USN.    She served as communications officer in the office of the Naval Attache.    Schekorra graduated from the College of Saint Teresa in Kansas City in 1947 and served in the active Navy since October 1951.   Her brother also served in the U.S. Navy during this time, Fred W. Schekorra, Jr., and was based out of Japan as a Hospital Corpsman with the Third Marine Division.  Photographed July 20, 1954.
