USN 709490: WAVE Veterans on 13th Anniversary of the WAVES, July 1955. Two veterans who have served with the WAVES since inception, in 1942, display their gold stripes. Two WAVE “Boots” look on. These young women will take their places with sailors in important technical and clerical duty assignments both at home and abroad.
