80-G-680082:   USS Forrestal (CVA-59), 1955.     The world’s largest naval vessel, the 59,650 tons in weight and 1,036 feet in length, USS Forrestal (CVA-59) pass through Hampton Roads on her way to the Atlantic for a five-day sea trial.  Underway on her own power, she left her pier at Newport News Shipyard at 3:00 pm for extensive tests on all her equipment and engines to satisfy the Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey.
