80-G-202513:  Operation Galvanic, November 1943.   USS Liscome Bay (CVE-56).  Captain John G. Crommelin, USN, at Naval Hospital, Pearl Harbor, Territory of Hawaii, during an interview on December 13, 1943.  Crommelin, survivor of USS Liscome Bay (CVE-56), suffered severe burns when he made his way to the flight deck following her torpedoing off Gilbert Islands, November 24.  He was rescued from the ocean by a destroyer less than two hours after the ship went down.  He was Chief of Staff to Rear Admiral Henry M. Mullinux, Carrier Division, commander, who was lost with the ship.  Photographed December 13, 1943.     Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.  (2018/02/21).
