80-G-285144:  Normandy Invasion, June 1944.   Lobnitz pier off “Omaha” Beach, France.  It forms part of the U.S. Mulberry.  Large “spuds” of vertical rails on which platforms ride with ebb and flow of tide.  It provides simultaneous unloading of both decks of an LST.  Shown:  The “spud” mechanism.
