80-G-40182:  Makin Island Raid, August 17-18, 1942.  Lieutenant Colonel Evans F. Carlson, USMCR, and Major James Roosevelt hold a Japanese flag taken from the Japanese Headquarters after the raid on Makin Island.  Note, Carlson is known for his Marine Raiders, and James Roosevelt was the oldest son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
