80-G-305000:  Battle for Iwo Jima, February 17, 1945.  USS Pensacola (CA-24) showing damage.  Seen from USS Heywood L. Edwards (DD-663), February 1945. On 17 February, Pensacola took six hits from enemy shore batteries as her guns covered operations of the minesweepers close inshore. Three of her officers and 14 men were killed. Another five officers and 114 men were injured.  Official U.S. Navy photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.  (2016/09/06).
