Crewmen of LSM as they stuffed their mattresses into a hole blown in the side of their craft off Iwo Jima to keep her afloat long enough to reach the beach.  The hose at the right is from a pump, trying to keep abreast of the rising water in the hole.  Photograph released February 26, 1945.
