80-G-231835:  Commander T. R. Kurtz, Jr., receives the Navy Commendation Ribbon from Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, USN, at CINCPAC HQ, Pearl Harbor, June 26, 1944.    Commander Kurtz was the Navigator of USS Denver (CL-58) during operations in the Solomons in November 1943, and “contributed materially to the destruction of and damage to enemy ships, aircraft, and shore installations.”   Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collection of the National Archives.
