80-G-409085: Bougainville Campaign, November 1943-August 1945

Bougainville Campaign, November 1943-August 1945. High on the list of minor hazards in the South Pacific jungle is the centipede on Bougainville. Finding their way into shoes, clothing and beds. These poisonous creatures bite viciously, causing the unwary victim discomfort for days. So painful is the sting that sometimes even morphine fails to give relief. Steichen Photograph crew, TR-9652, February 1944. Official U.S Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2017/12/13).
