80-G-16322:   Guadalcanal Operation, August 1942-February 1943.  Raider’s Ridge (looking north), Guadalcanal Island.   Picture taken from the second Raiders position, held throughout the battle.  Some Japanese went behind the Raiders positions and attacked the ridge.  For a time, the Raiders were cut off, but the enemy was forced to retreat and contact was reestablished, 13-14 September 1942.  Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.    (2014/06/12).
