80-G-20675:  Battle of Santa Cruz Islands,  26 October 1942.   USS Smith (DD 378), showing the damage inflicted by a Japanese torpedo plane in the battle.  Smith maintained her place in the screening line after she was struck and continued her anti-air craft fire which aided in destroying the attacking enemy planes.  The after part of the Japanese torpedo is visible abreast of the number one gun platform. U.S. Navy photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.  (2015/11/17).
