80-G-30624: Battle of Santa Cruz Islands,  26 October 1942.    Lieutenant Commander Hunter Wood Jr., Commanding Officer of USS Smith (DD 378) recounts to correspondents his experience when a Japanese torpedo plane crashed on the forecastle at the height of battle.  She lost 60 crewmen in the attack.  Repaired, Smith returned to battle and was scraped in 1947.  Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.  (2015/9/22).
