Keller Jacket

kellerjacket
Description: Major Robert P. Keller wore this leather flight while serving as the commanding officer of Marine Fighting Squadron (VMF) 214, the famed “Black Sheep,” during the opening months of the Korean War. Flying F4U Corsairs, the squadron flew from the deck of the escort carrier Sicily (CVE 118) providing close air support. On the lining of the jacket is a blood chit to communicate with native inhabitants on the ground in the event the pilot had to bail out of his aircraft. It provides instructions on helping him return to friendly forces.
