Description: On October 14, 1918, a formation from C Squadron, First Marine Aviation Force left Le Fresne Aerodrome to attack the rail yard center at Thielt, Belguim. The De Havilland DH-4 aircraft successfully found their target, but later came under attack from German fighters. The scene depicts Second Lieutenant Ralph Talbot and his gunner, Corporal Robert G. Robinson, fending off attacks from German Fokker D-VII and Pfalz D-III aircraft. Although each man was able to shoot down an enemy aircraft, Robinson was seriously wounded. Talbot managed to land the DH-4 at a Belgian aerodrome, where his gunner was taken to a hospital. Both men received the Medal of Honor for their actions.
