Chrysler Corporation produced its first Plymouth automobile in 1928, the sedans becoming quite popular in the domestic market during the Great Depression. During World War II, both the U.S. Army and Navy contracted for delivery of Plymouth sedans to serve as staff cars, the former service painting them olive drab while the Navy versions featured gray paint schemes. Designated P11s, they were primarily used to transport high-ranking officers.
