One sectional hull model of the USS Sampson (DD-63). The model is constructed of copper alloy and shows a cutaway of the interior of the portside hull looking aft. The fore bulkhead is painted white at the top, gray at the middle, and black at the keel. There is a set of stairs that runs from the top section to the bottom section. A gray stripe of paint follows the path of the stairs. The aft bulkhead paint scheme mimics the fore bulkhead. The exterior of the side wall is painted gray with a horizontal black stripe at the waterline and red below the waterline.  A metal plate attached to the model base is engraved // SECTIONAL MODEL / of / U.S. TORPEDO BOAT DESTROYER DD 63 / "SAMPSON" / FRAMES 95 TO 99 INCLUSIVE / PORT SIDE-LOOKING AFT / SCALE 1/8 SIZE / DEPARTMENT OF CONSTRUCTION & REPAIR / NAVY YARD, WASHINGTON D.C. / 1923 //

Having trouble orienting yourself? This model depicts an athwartship section of the hull. The open side is the centerline of the ship. The wall with the red paint is the exterior port hull. This model was created after the Sampson was decommissioned in 1921.
