Caption: Tomb of Commodore James Barron Jr., USN in Trinity Churchyard, Portsmouth, Virginia. Epitaph: "James Barron of the United States Navy. Born at Hampton, Virginia. September 15, 1768. Died in the City of Norfolk, April 21, 1851. He was Commandant of the Gosport Navy Yard from 1825 to 1831, as was also his brother, Samuel in 1799 and again in 1810. They were sons of Commodore James Barron Sr. , who commanded the Virginia Navy in the American Revolution. Commodore James Barron Jr., in a duel fought in 1820 as a result of the Chesapeake-Leopard affair, shot and killed Commodore Stephen Decatur.
