USN 709488:    Seaman Apprentice Barbara Boyd, July 1955.  Boyd is an example of the young women presently undergoing WAVE Recruit Training at the Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Maryland.  She is shown announcing orders to the other recruits.   Master Caption:  WAVES Observe 13th Anniversary:   Preparatory to their Thirteenth Anniversary, July 30, WAVE Recruits at the Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Maryland, pass in review.  These young women will take their places with sailors in important technical and clerical duty assignments both at home and abroad.  At that time, there were approximately 7,000 WAVES on active duty in the U.S. Navy.   Photograph released July 25, 1955.
