![<p>80-G-68713: German Type VIIC U-boat, U-603, attacked by TBF-1 aircraft from USS Bogue (CVE-9) in the Atlantic, June 4, 1943. Pilot was Ensign E.R. Hodgson, who dropped four Mk.17.2 depth bombs on the submarine. This photograph shows splashes from machine gun fire. U-603 was not sunk in this attack but was forced to submerge saving a nearby LCI convoy from attack. Note, U-603’s exhaust plume. </p>
