Description: Artist Richard C. Moore's painting titled 'The End of a Fighting Ship' depicts the last moments of the escort carrier St. Lo (CVE 63) after a kamikaze hit her during an attack on the morning of October 25, 1944. Warren Wilson, a twenty year old sailor, felt the heat of the flames after suicide plane crashed near his battle station, and made his way to the stern, climbing down knotted ropes into the water. 'The only thing going through my mind was to get away from the ship. The suction will take you down.' Wilson remained in oil strewn waters for two hours until pulled aboard a rescue ship.
