Caption: "Commodore Wilson's Action with two French men of War." Engraving by T. Medland after N. Pocock. Published in the Naval Chronicle by J. Gold, London, August 1805. This action occurred east of The Cape of Good Hope on 9 March 1758 between the French Warships Comte De Provence (74) and SYLPHYDE (26), and The English East Indiamen Suffolk, Houghton, and Godolphin. The English ships held a close line of Battle and drove off their attackers. The plate appears to represent the action from three different angles.
