Title: Insignia: USS DYESS (DDR-880)
Caption: This emblem was in use during the early 1960s. Its crest, a fouled anchor and a fist full of thunderbolts, represents the navy and the electronic mission of the DDR. The aircraft and submarine of the shield symbolize DYESS' role in anti-air and anti-submarine warfare. In 1965, following DYESS" FRAM I conversion to a DD, This insignia was slightly modified. the airplanes were replaced by ASROC Missiles, the surfaced sub was exchange for a submerged one, and the ship's designation the ribbon became DD-880.
