USS Houston (CA-30)

In preparation of realignment of the Cold War Gallery and the National Museum of the U.S. Navy, the model of USS Houston (CA-30) was removed from display in November 2022 and relocated to the north end of Bldg. 76.    The model case was donated by members and friends of USS Houston (CA-30) Survivors Association and Next Generations.    The model was on exhibit in the World War II: Pacific Section of In Harm’s Way.     The cruiser was lost valiantly fighting against the Japanese in the Battle of Sunda Strait in late February 1942, following the Battle of Java Sea the previous day.   Other items on display from Houston were:   a trumpet recovered from the cruiser; a plaque from Admiral Helfrich, CIC, Allied Naval Forces; rubber stamps used to mark personal belongings onboard; a Navy officer’s ring.
