Between June 5 and 10, 1967, war broke out between Israel and Egypt, known as “The Six Day War.” Admiral McDonald deployed naval forces to protect American interests in that region. On June 8, Israel attacked USS Liberty (AGTR-5), a Navy ship that was gathering intelligence off the coast of Egypt.
