PVT Joe Louis Says –“We’re Going to do Our Part …and We’ll Win Because We’re on God’s Side.”
As one of the first African American sports heros during World War II, Joe Louis fought two charity boxing matches for the Navy Relief Society. He volunteered to enlist as a private in the United States Army. Using his fame, he promoted the recruitment of African Americans into all branches of the military.
