The joy of the war’s end and victory is reflected in this image, but the rapid demobilization of United States forces brought challenges. The Flu Pandemic of 1918-19 took 50 million lives worldwide. The influx of hundreds of thousands of job-seeking men into the national workforce and the removal of wartime price supports destabilized the United States economy and caused social unrest.
