Description: Aerial photograph of the municipal airport, looking east on 11 September 1942. Note the Quonset Huts erected around the airport hangar to provide temporary facilities, pending construction of the Naval Air Station structures that would be located in the upper left of this view. Most of the airplanes present appear to be training type biplanes, but a Grumman J2F Duck amphibian is parked beyond the Quonset Huts in the left center. The street running across the lower part of the view is Garfield Avenue. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
