Description: (Bureau Number 122716), of squadron HU-1 Returns Lieutenant (Junior Grade) M.E. Thompson, USN, to the flight deck of USS Philippine Sea (CV-47) after rescuing him from the sea off the coast of Korea. He was the pilot of a Vought F4U-5N Corsair fighter (Bureau No. 124501) that crashed while taking off from the carrier at 1345 hours on 27 January 1951. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives.
