Description: U.S. Army vehicles move inland from a Normandy invasion beach. American equipment, trucks, DUKWs, bulldozers, and jeeps, which aided troops in establishing the beachhead won in the initial assault on Orchard Beach, France. Telephone poles and lines, strung by Signal Corps men, established communications between the forward moving troops and the beachhead. 6 June 1944. (quoted from the original caption). Despite the 6 June date, this photograph was probably taken after the post-D-Day buildup had progressed for at least a few days.
