USN 1026532 USS John L. Sullivan (YAG-37)

Four Pratt and Whitney T34 aircraft engines with turbo propellers have been mounted on board USS John L. Sullivan (YAG-37) as part of an experimental program to determine the feasibility of using aircraft engines on a ship of this size in lieu of conventional propulsion systems. This type of propulsion could be used where underwater screw propulsion is undesirable or impractical due to floating debris or shallow water. The aircraft engines were mounted for and aft on 40mm gun mounts.
