USN 188370 USS West Point (AP-23)

The USS West Point (AP-23), largest US Navy transport afloat, arrives in New York. The former SS America, largest merchant ship ever constructed in American shipyards, brought in more than 7,500 veteran soldiers from the European theater to meet a warm harbor welcome today in America's greatest port. GI's cram the upper decks for a homecoming view of New York as the 723-foot West Point is nosed into her slip by harbor tugs. July 11, 1945.
