Description: August 19, 1955 - Prior to a manned flight of the Office of Naval Research Strato-Lab vehicle, many test flights were conducted to determine the reliability of the Strato-Lab system. When sufficient helium has been pumped into the balloon to lift the gondola it will be attached to the balloon to commence its flight to the stratosphere.
