Douglass BTD-1 destroyer
Title: Douglass BTD-1 destroyer
Caption: (BUNO 04963) single seat bomber torpedo plane, under test at Patuxent River 26 June 1944. This "multi- purpose" type evolved from the early World War II Douglas XSB2D-1 two seater scout bomber design. 28 were manufactured, but the BTD proved unsatisfactory and never became operational. Lessons learned from it were incorporated in Douglas's next design the eminently successful AD/A-1 Skyraider. This BTD wears 3-tone war time camouflage and has its nick name painted on the rudder.
