Description: (American Whaler, 1912) Underway prior to her World War I Navy service. This ship was enrolled and ordered delivered to the Navy on 24 December 1917. She was actually acquired on 19 January 1918, commissioned as USS Star 1 (ID # 1351) on 30 March 1918, and returned to her owner on 12 February 1919. Her sisters, Star # 2 and Star # 3, were not taken over by the Navy. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
