Title: Siberian reservists, station Chulim between Omsk and Tomsk, 6 April 1904. The officer is Prince Jaime of Bourbon, in the Russian Army.
Caption: Seen during the trans-Siberian railway trip of Lieutenant Commander N.A. McCully, USN, to the far eastern war zone. McCully's comments on these men: "They had already been one month in the cars and were not half way to Irkutsk from where they started. They seemed types of simple peasant farmers, rather old and whose principal regret was to leave their families without any assurance of what would become of them. One had taken part in the...Boxer War and said that he knew that in this war it would be very different than fighting with the Chinese. Most of the other men seemed to have little idea of why they were called out, where they were going to, or with whom they were going to fight."
Description: From Lieutenant Commander N.A. McCully's report on the Russo-Japanese War, Volume 1, page 9a.
