Caption: EMPRESS (U.S. Passenger Barge, 1912). Shown in drydock in November 1915. She was acquired by the Navy on October 17, 1917 as USS EMPRESS (ID-569). A report dated November 5, 1917 states that, while under tow from Brooklyn to Newport, her seams opened and she broke up.
