Description: Photographed in port, during World War I. Built in 1916, the civilian motor boat Patrol No. 1 was acquired by the Navy for World War I service and commissioned on 4 May 1917. Stricken from the Navy list on 13 June 1919, she was destroyed by a hurricane at Key West, Florida, on 11 September 1919, before her sale was completed, and was stricken again on 4 October 1919. Patrol No. 1 was one of five sisters (named Patrol No. 1 through Patrol No. 5) built by Britt Brothers, at Lynn, Massachusetts, as part of the civilian Preparedness movement that preceded United States involvement in World War I.
