Title: Pontiac
Description: (Steam Ferry, 1883) Tied up in the ice, prior to her World War I Navy service. Formerly named Pioneer, and rebuilt in 1909, Pontiac was chartered by the Navy on 4 March 1918 and briefly served as USS Pontiac (ID # 2343). Returned to her owner on 5 June 1918, she was commandeered on 19 June. However, this action was cancelled and she was again returned to her owner in July 1918. The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM. U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command Photograph.
