Description: (President, Navy Board of Inspection and Survey) Looks through the barrel of a U.S. 12-inch Mortar (No. 172) on Corregidor, Manila Bay, Philippines. The photo, taken by Journalist First Class W.G. Broome, is dated 8 August 1977. RAdm. Bulkeley was revisiting the Corregidor after more than 35 years. On 11 March 1942, as a Lieutenant, he piloted USS PT-41 when she evacuated U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur, with members of the General's family and his party, from the island during the Japanese campaign to capture the Philippines. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the Naval History and Heritage Command.
