Title: USAT Admiral W. S. Benson
Description: The former USS Admiral W. S. Benson (AP-120) in Army service circa 1946-1947, after an initial austere conversion for peacetime duty. The Army subsequently renamed her General Daniel I. Sultan, gave her a much more elaborate conversion, and in 1950 handed her back to the Navy for service in the new Military Sea Transportation Service. Note that she has received lifeboats and davits in place of her wartime liferafts but retains her empty gun positions and the other main external features of her wartime configuration.
