NH 107746 USS Sierra

Photo #: NH 107746 USS Sierra
Title: USS Sierra
Caption:
Description: (AD-18) Moored to buoys with the masts visible of five destroyers moored to her port side. USS De Haven (DD-727) and USS Collett (DD-730) are both visible beyond Sierra's bow. The place and date are unknown. However, judging from the small wartime hull numbers on these ships, their World War II vintage radars and their post-war haze gray paint schemes, the picture was taken probably about 1946 or 1947. It was certainly taken prior to June 1949 when Sierra transfered to the Atlantic Fleet while De Haven and Collett continued their Pacific Fleet service. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, from the collections of the Naval History and Heritage Command.
