NH 108550 USS ST. PAUL (1898)

USS ST. PAUL (1898)
Title: USS ST. PAUL (1898)
Caption: 1875, This original water color by Hely Smith was selected, not for the historical importance of the vessel, but because if depicts so beautifully a full-rigged ship under all sail. With the majestic beauty of her towering spread of canvas, she fairly breathes the romance of the sea. Built in Bath, Maine, in 1874, the "SAINT PAUL" was operated in the San Francisco-Liverpool grain trade. In 1879, assisted by the ship "John deCosta", she rescued the crew of the ship "Frank F. Curling," which was being battered by a gale.
