Caption: Chart of the West Coast of Sumatra between Rigas and Diah from an actual survey by James D. Gillis, 1834. Gillis was a surveyor aboard the Salem Ship Friendship, which was pirated at Quallah Battoo, Sumatra, 1830. An expedition of marines and sailors chastised the pirates a year later.
